Tonbak is an instrument that makes sound by beating on its skin. The sound is made by beating of the player’s both hands’ fingers. Folks call it Tomak. In Lorestan, this instrument is used for companying Kamancheh. It is settled in Membraphones category.
Tonbak and its different parts
1)Body: This part is called Kasa Gapa (big bowl) in Lorestan. There are always some grooves on this part. The form of Tonbak in Lorestan was completely cylindrical but its not the same for today’s.
2)NafirThis part is also called Galvan.
3)Big opening mouth: They always put skin on it. They always put a hoop in this part. This hoop is always made of the same wood used for Tonbak or any other hard wood. Like other instruments in Lorestan, there is no standard size for Tombak. This measurement shown below is the average of three different Tonbaks.
