Tanbour Tnbour is one of the Iranian ancient instruments that had been a popular instrument among Iranian tribes, and still is the same as it was. Farabi-in his Great Music- has mentioned the Bghdadi and Khorasani’s type of Tanbour. Currently there are some other types such as: Torbat-e-Jami, Torkamani, Kermanshahi and Mazandarani. This instrument has two strings, that mostly are tuned based on the forth or seventh distance to each other. This instrument is a respected one in different parts of Iran . This instrument has found its place in Lorestan as a religious instrument. It is called Tamira by folks. It has thirteen frets. The nomination for each fret is based on the name of one holy man.
Material used in Tnbour
1) Bowl : this part is made of mulberry’s wood

2)Board: it is called Safa by folks and is made of white mulberry’s wood.
3) Handle: Folks call it Dasa.

4)Galouee: Previously it was made of mulberry’s wood,but nowadays its made of walnut;s wood.

5)Simgir: It is called Tel-Gir by folks. Previously it was made of wild goat’s horn and nowadays it is made of hard woods.

6)Pawl(Sheitanak): like Simgir, the material used for Pawl was wild-goat’s horn but these days its made of hard woods.

7)Bridge: This part is made of boxwood, walnut and betel-nut’s wood.

8) Peg: This part is called Kouk by folks. It is made of willow’s wood.
The reason is that willow’s wood is softer than walnut and wont be broken by time.

9)String: previously it was made of row silk,but now its made of steely strings or the same materials.
10) Fret: The material for making fret is the gut of a sacrificed sheep.
